概要 More Japanese university students are studying abroad in non-English-speaking countries, with Finland being a popular choice due to its education quality and cultural appeal. This study examines the language learner beliefs of four Japanese exchange students enrolled in English-medium academic communication courses at the University of Jyvaskyla. Through Japanese-language interviews and visual data (language and learner portraits), students shared their motivations, goals, and self-perceptions. Analysed from Finnish and Japanese perspectives, the findings show that learner beliefs shape motivation, strategy, and identity. Understanding these beliefs helps educators better support students and create more inclusive, responsive learning environments abroad.
