概要 Taurine improves plasma glucose levels and hyperglycemia. In this study, we investigated the effects of taurine on jejunal glucose absorption via disaccharide digestion in normal rats and on plasma glucose levels in hyperglycemic rats. Taurine significantly suppressed the sucrose-derived glucose transfer rate from the mucosa to the serosal side of the jejunum but not the maltose-derived transfer rate. In an oral glucose tolerance test in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats, the addition of taurine significantly suppressed the increase in peripheral glucose concentrations but not in the hepatic portal. These results suggest that taurine suppresses sucrose-derived active glucose absorption in normal rats and attenuates the increase in peripheral glucose concentration without altering the portal glucose concentration in diabetic rats.
