| 概要 | This study aimed to clarify why elderly residents and their families selected a nursing home for end-of-life care instead of a medical facility. Three facilities were chosen utilizing the snowball sampling method. Semi-structured interviews were conducted between April 2012 to January 2013 with the key persons of residents who died within 3 to 15 months of residency in a nursing home, after choosing the nursing home as their residence for end-of-life care rather than a hospital. The residents and families had a negative image that dying in a hospital is a painful or hard experience, and they wanted a natural end-of-life experience. Therefore, within nursing homes, care that relieves the pain and suffering of the elderly is desired. |
