概要 The purpose of this study was to reveal the current status of self-esteem in older people in Japan. We searched articles published between 1983 and 2013 by using Ichushi Web and CiNii, two systematic literature search engines for the Japanese literature. Inclusion criteria were studies using a self-esteem scale, and participants aged 60 years or older. Seven different versions of Japanese self-esteem scales based on the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale had been used by studies in the literature, making it difficult to compare scores between the different versions. The reliability and validity of five of these Japanese scales were unconfirmed and, therefore, should be confirmed when being used. Subjective evaluation, including aspects such as good health and social support, might increase the self-esteem of community-dwelling older people.
