概要 This study aimed to investigate interpreting scenarios in medical settings with Brazilian residents in Japan. We administered our developed educational program to 28 Brazilian residents of Japan between August to December 2013. We created a scenario for liver cancer notification to the patient's family to assess the application and conducted a simulated medical interview with patients, doctors, and participants as interpreters. We identified scenarios where five types of omission, addition, substitution, editorialization, and false fluency, occurred frequently. Errors by ad-hoc medical interpreters occur commonly and affect an understanding of the patient's disease condition and severity, the diagnostic process, decision-making on treatment plans, and the patient's anxiety.
